When you go on Shopify, you can see what song people are playing, not only what people are playing, but you get a list of top songs by artists, ranked based on how much people listen to them, the most popular songs.
Billy Joels “most played” is FUCKED.
Wait I’ve gone too far too fast, I should say first that I’m aware the people are entitled to their opinions, but this algorithm should surely have a science as how it averages out over time and that, in theory should average out to the most songs being the most popular songs, right? That means the most played list *IS* the most popular songs, by definition, right?
“Popular” means “Widely liked or appreciated” right? So, the list of the most popular songs *IS* the list of sings that are most widely liked and appreciated, RIGHT?!
Can you believe that Piano Man is Billy Joel's 3rd most played song after Uptown Girl in Second Place, which let’s be Honest, is a bouncer, BUT Piano Man is ICONIC.
In the first place, we have Vienna. I thought it could be "Always a Woman" if it was anything, Vienna is again, a great song, but doesn't hold a candle to Piano man.... or “Always a Woman”, or even fucking Up town Girl.
How can people be so wrong about things that only appear to me to have binary answers? It's also on my playlist of waltz bangers. Piano Man tops out over Audrey Hepburn / Henry Manchini singing “Moon River” and Seal with “Kiss from a Rose” - The 3 best waltz-time songs.
All three of which easily come above Vienna.
Also, special mention to Iris, it can get in the bin, the gates to the Waltz bangers playlist has been closed, for a long time, every year the Goo Goo Dolls personally email me to ask for entry to the great halls of my whimsical playlists, and every rear I turn them down. One day they’ll take the hint and fuck of… Honestly, I’m like the headless hunt and they’re John Cleese. TAKE A HINT GOO GOO DOLLS!
Oh also “America” by Simon and Garfunkel, but enough about waltzes, let's look at these best bois of music for a moment. I LOVE Simon and Garfunkel. Best 2 songs, FACT, are “Bridge over troubled waters” and “Sound of silence” and don’t even get me started on Disturbed's version of this song – as good as it is, it’s a cheap excuse for people who only love rock to actually enjoy perfect music. Grow up and just listen to Simon and Garfunkel. ANYWAY! Bridge over troubled water is 5th. FUCKING 5th. I guess Elvis and Willie Nelson were just wrong, maybe they should have covered “Cecilia” I mean that came in 3rd? “The Sound of Silence”, came in second. SECOND! TO MRS ROBINSON. What a cacophony of ball slapping noises and tedious “doot doots”.
Honestly I could fucking whine all day about this, and its pointless, I know everyone loves different things, I just… I don’t get it.
